Charles Harris Kuhn was born in Prairie City, Illinois, on March 20, 1892. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and held several newspaper positions in Chicago and Denver, then moved to Indiana in the 1920s. He was a political cartoonist at the Indianapolis News for 26 years, but was best known for the comic strip "Grandma." Kuhn died January 16, 1989., 1892-1989.

Charles Harris (Doc) Kuhn was born in Prairie City IL on March 28,1892. He sold his first cartoon at the age of 12. He attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and served in the Navy during World War I. After the war, he worked at Publishers Feature Bureau in Chicago and then at the Rocky Mountain news in Denver before joining the Indianapolis news as editorial cartoonist in 1922.
